UNC football to open 2023 season in prime time

The North Carolina Tar Heels will open the 2023 football season in prime time when they face South Carolina in Charlotte.

On Wednesday, kickoff times for the first three UNC games of the season were released, including the Week 1 showdown. The two teams will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 with the game airing on ABC.

The following week, North Carolina will host Appalachian State at 5:15 p.m. EDT on the ACC Network. It will be the home opener for the Tar Heels.

In Week 3, UNC will host Minnesota with a 3:30 p.m. EDT kickoff and will be broadcast on either ESPN or ESPN2.  It’s the first meeting between the two teams in the program’s history.

North Carolina and South Carolina will meet for the first time since the 2021 Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Gamecocks took down the Tar Heels in that game.

UNC won the 2019 season opener against the Gamecocks in Charlotte in the first game back for Mack Brown. The Tar Heels lead the all-time series 35-20-4.
