Finn the Bat Dog is a very good boy. The best boy.
The umpire for the Aviators’ inaugural home opener does not seem to take Finn seriously. And as such, the fans gave him a hearty rain storm of boos.
Finn is a dog-of-all-tasks who not only takes care of bats, he also keeps his “umpire buddies” hydrated.
Ultra rude to deny him this bat-chasing challenge, ump. He’s been the bat dog in Las Vegas for a year and it’s hard to miss him. Just look at this compilation. The concentration is stellar. Even the MLB account knows it.
Bat dogs are a big thing in the minor leagues, where small promotional additions to the game can result in attendance jumps. Teams in Trenton and Myrtle Beach were early adopters of dog-driven showcases. In 2017, the Trenton Thunders’ very good dog, Rookie, lived up to his name and accidentally chased down the ball instead of the bat. In Greensboro, Lou Lou got a little too excited and tried to get the bat early.
Poor Finn, trying to do his job.
There was more than Finn bringing the excitement to Las Vegas for opening night. Hailey Dawson threw out the first pitch. She’s thrown the first pitch at all 30 MLB parks with her 3-D printed right hand.
