UM lands East Carolina transfer Brandon Johnson, Kyshawn George to test NBA Draft

East Carolina power forward Brandon Johnson announced he is transferring to the University of Miami, the second player to land with the Hurricanes from the transfer portal, joining Virginia Tech center Lynn Kidd.

Joe Tipton of On3Sports was first to report the news and a school source confirmed it. The 6-8 junior chose the Hurricanes over Louisville, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, NC State, and Pitt.

Johnson, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, averaged a career-high 14 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this past season. He shot 36.5 percent from three-point range.

UM coach Jim Larrañaga said in his post-season press conference that adding size was a priority for the Hurricanes, and they did so with Johnson and Kidd, who is 6-foot-10.

The Hurricanes are restocking after losing Bensley Joseph, Jakai Robinson, AJ Casey, Michael Nwoko and Christian Watson to the transfer portal. Nijel Pack is returning. Norchad Omier has not announced his plans. Kyshawn George is testing the NBA waters by putting his name in the draft, with the option to remove it before the draft and retain his college eligibility. Wooga Poplar and Matt Cleveland were also said to be considering entering the draft.
