UFC selects Max Holloway for 2021 Forrest Griffin Community Award
Max Holloway is truly blessed.
Holloway, the former UFC featherweight champion, has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award. The promotion announced the news Wednesday ahead of Holloway’s upcoming UFC Fight Night 197 headliner against Yair Rodriguez.
The award, which was created last year and named after former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, annually recognizes a UFC athlete for his or her exceptional volunteer and charity work and the meaningful impact their efforts have on the community.
“Max is not only an amazing athlete, but he’s also a great role model who enjoys giving back to his community,” UFC President Dana White said in a statement. “Max does a great job of setting a positive example of how athletes can use their platforms to raise awareness for charities, while helping those who are less fortunate. It’s an honor to present him with this award.”

Holloway is being recognized for his numerous visits to military and children’s hospitals throughout the country in the past year. “Blessed” also partnered with the UFC in February to visit Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, the only pediatric children’s hospital in the state of Nevada, where he handed out toys to cancer patients. Holloway also has been at the forefront of the community response to the COVID-19 pandemic in his home state of Hawaii, helping to raise money for the Hawaii and Maui Foodbanks.
As the recipient of the Forrest Griffin Community Award, Holloway will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice courtesy of Toyo Tires. Holloway will be honored during the 2022 UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony during International Fight Week.
