UFC Fight Night 224 post-event facts: Mackenzie Dern climbs strawweight bonus list

The UFC closed out its May schedule on Saturday with UFC Fight Night 224, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

In the main event, Mackenzie Dern (13-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) defeated Angela Hill (15-13 MMA, 10-13 UFC) by unanimous decision in the Fight of the Night, with the grappling specialist landing a career-best 126 significant strikes over the course of five rounds.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $179,500.

Dern, Hill, Diego Ferreira and Viacheslav Borshchev earned $50,000 UFC Fight Night 224 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC Fight Night 224, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 11-1 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 10-7 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 2:25:36.

Dern’s five fight-night bonuses for UFC strawweight bouts are third-most in divisional history behind Jessica Andrade (eight) and Rose Namajunas (six).

Hill fell to 9-11 since she returned to the UFC for a second stint in February 2017.

Hill has suffered 11 of her 13 career losses by decision.

Anthony Hernandez def. Edmen Shahbazyan

Anthony Hernandez (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has earned nine of his 11 career victories by stoppage.

Edmen Shahbazyan (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) fell to 1-4 in his past five fights after starting his career 11-0.

Shahbazyan has suffered three of his four career losses by stoppage.

Shahbazyan has suffered all three of his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Emily Ducote (12-8 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered seven of her eight career losses by decision.

Andre Fialho (16-7 MMA, 2-4 UFC) has suffered all five of his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Diego Ferreira (18-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) has earned six of his nine UFC victories by stoppage.

Ferreira earned the four knockout victory of his career. All of those wins have come under the UFC banner.

Michael Johnson (21-19 MMA, 13-15 UFC) fell to 2-5 since he returned to the lightweight division in October 2019.

Hayisaer Maheshate (7-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with a knockout defeat.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz (15-7 MMA, 8-7 UFC) has seven of her eight UFC victories by decision.

Kowalkiewicz’s three-fight UFC winning streak at strawweight is tied for the third-longest active streak in the division behind Tatiana Suarez (five) and Godinez (four).

Vanessa Demopoulos (9-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has suffered all five of her career losses by decision.

Chase Hooper (12-3-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) was successful in his UFC lightweight debut.

Hooper’s 217 total strikes landed are the third-most in a UFC lightweight fight. Nate Diaz holds the divisional record with 260 total strikes landed vs. Donald Cerrone at UFC 141.

Nick Fiore (6-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered consecutive losses after starting his career 6-0.

Fiore has suffered both of his career losses by decision.

Silva’s three-fight UFC winning streak at women’s flyweight is the fifth-longest active streak in the division behind Alexa Grasso (five), Manon Fiorot (five), Erin Blanchfield (five) and Maycee Barber (four).

Victoria Leonardo (9-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered all five of her career losses by stoppage.

Leonardo has suffered all three of her UFC losses by knockout.

Themba Gorimbo def. Takashi Sato

Takashi Sato’s (15-7 MMA, 2-5 UFC) four-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since June 2020.
