Alexander Volkov continues to be a tough outing for the majority of the UFC heavyweight division.

At UFC 267, Russia’s Volkov (34-9 MMA, 8-3 UFC) defeated Poland’s Marcin Tybura (22-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

The heavyweight bout was part of the UFC 267 main card at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. It streamed on ESPN+.

Both men had their moments in a close fight. What started as a slugfest with the two fighters trading in the pocket quickly slowed to technical point-fighting. Late in Round 1, Volkov took Tybura to the canvas where he stayed for the remainder of the round without doing anything too significant.

In Round 2, Tybura sought a takedown but struggled to get one despite numerous tries. Tybura pushed the action as Volkov counterpunched. The round ended with Tybura shoving Volkov into the fence.

The best action occurred in Round 3 as both men let their hands go with the small amount of remaining energy they had. While both men landed, Volkov seemed to land harder and more often. The judges saw it that way, at least, as they awarded him the unanimous decision.

The victory returns Volkov into the winning column after a unanimous decision loss to Ciryl Gane in June. Volkov has now won three of his most recent four outings, a stretch that also includes victories over Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris.

For Tybura, the loss snaps a five-fight winning streak that dated back to February 2020 and included victories over Greg Hardy, Walt Harris, and Ben Rothwell among others.
