UFC 262 results: Edson Barboza adds to highlight reel with strange-looking TKO of Shane Burgos

Edson Barboza is picking up momentum.

The veteran stopped Shane Burgos in impressive fashion after an all-out war at Saturday’s UFC 262 event. Barboza (22-9 MMA, 16-9 UFC) officially finished Burgos (13-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) at the 1:16 mark of the third round.

The featherweight bout opened up the UFC 262 main card at Toyota Center in Houston. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

The fight was just as advertised. Both fighters started hot and it took very little time for the fight to get going.

In the first round, Barboza immediately started targeting the legs with kicks, hurting the mobility of Burgos early. Burgos was doing most of the chasing and was landing good straight punches, swelling Barboza’s right eye. However, it was clear that was up as he wobbled Burgos several times with counters.

The second round was much better for Burgos. It was competitive with Barboza still landing plenty. But Burgos has picked up the pace and was matching him.

The third featured Barboza’s highlight finish. Early in a combination, the Brazilian connected on Burgos with a pair of rights that eventually sent him to the canvas – but after an odd delayed reaction of several seconds. Barboza followed up with ground-and-pound, but it was clear Burgos was out and the referee stopped the bout.
