UFC 262 pre-event facts: Charles Oliveira can make history with title win

The UFC’s sixth pay-per-view of the year takes place Saturday with UFC 262 at Toyota Center in Houston. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

A new lightweight champion will be crowned in the main event when Charles Oliveira (30-8 MMA, 18-8 UFC) and Michael Chandler (22-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) clash for the vacant strap after Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from MMA competition.

Oliveira's 16 stoppage victories in UFC competition are tied with Donald Cerrone for most in company history. Oliveira's 14 submission victories in UFC competition are most in company history. Oliveira's eight submission victories in UFC lightweight competition are second most in divisional history behind Jim Miller (nine). Oliveira's six submission victories in UFC featherweight competition are the most in divisional history. Oliveira's five guillotine-choke submission victories in UFC competition are most in company history. Oliveira's three anaconda choke submission victories in UFC competition are most in company history. Oliveira is one of two fighters in UFC history to earn submission victories with six different techniques. Frank Mir also accomplished the feat. Oliveira is one of two fighters in UFC history to earn a calf-slicer submission victory. Brett Johns also accomplished the feat. Oliveira has been awarded 16 fight-night bonuses for UFC bouts, the second most in company history behind Cerrone (18). Michael Chandler

Chandler can become the third fighter in history to win titles in Bellator and UFC. Eddie Alvarez and Cris Cyborg are the other two. Chandler's 15 victories in Bellator lightweight competition are most in divisional history. Chandler's 13 stoppage victories in Bellator competition are tied with Freire for most in company history. Chandler's 10 stoppage victories in Bellator lightweight competition are most in divisional history. Chandler's 11 appearances in Bellator title fights are second most in company history behind Freire (12). Chandler is one of three fighters in Bellator/UFC/WEC/PRIDE/Strikeforce history with three title reigns in a single weight class. Randy Couture and Douglas Lima also accomplished the feat. Chandler's six victories in Bellator championship fights are second most in company history behind Freire (10). Chandler's five losses in Bellator title fights are the most in company history.

Tony Ferguson vs. Beneil Dariush

Beneil Dariush

Dariush has earned 14 UFC lightweight victories since 2014 are most in the division. Dariush is one of eight fighters in UFC history to earn a knockout stemming from a spinning backfist. He accomplished the feat at UFC Fight Night 174.

Schnell's two submission victories by triangle choke in UFC competition are tied for second most in company history behind Paul Craig (three).

Katlyn Chookagian vs. Viviane Araujo

Chookagian's six victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are tied with Robertson for second most in divisional history behind Valentina Shevchenko (seven). Chookagian has earned 12 of her 15 career victories by decision. That includes all eight of her UFC wins.

Shane Burgos vs. Edson Barboza

Edson Barboza
