CASSANDRA NEGLEY: UConn is back in the national championship game even though they had a down year-- what we thought would be a down year-- after a lot of injuries. UConn defeated Stanford, the reigning champions, 63-58 here at Target Center in Minneapolis on Friday night. They will play South Carolina in the championship game on Sunday. It was, of course, Paige Bueckers, who is the hometown girl here, who lifted UConn. She had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, with 7 of 13. Evina Westbrook had 12, Christyn Williams had 10, and Aaliyah Edwards had 9 for UConn. It was Haley Jones who stepped up huge for Stanford with 20 points. An off night for them, no one else contributed a ton beyond Cameron Brink's 15 points. They're the reigning champions, and they will go home early. UConn controlled the boards 46-37. When it comes to championship games, they are 11-0. This will be the old powerhouse versus an emerging one, with Dawn Staley's South Carolina crew.
