Tyrese Hunter puts NBA plans on hold, announcing a return to Texas
Texas basketball received some positive news on Thursday as Tyrese Hunter announced he is returning for the 2023-24 season.
Hunter tested NBA Draft waters this offseason before ultimately deciding to come back to school. He started every game of the season for the Longhorns in 2022. Hunter averaged 10.3 points, three rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, helping lead Texas to the Elite Eight.
Excellent guard play was a critical factor in Texas’ success in 2022. With Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabair Rice gone, Texas had to reload at the position.
Texas’ new look backcourt duo now features Hunter and Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas. Both players possess tons of experience playing big-time college basketball.
The Longhorns also added talented UTA transfer guard Chendall Weaver via the portal, who is sure to have a vital role next year.
Rodney Terry and the Texas staff still await a final decision from Dillion Mitchell as he goes through the NBA Draft process.
