Beede recalled for first time since Tommy John; Davis to IL originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

A series of roster moves on Tuesday afternoon proved monumental for one Giants pitcher.

Right-hander Tyler Beede was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and will be seeking his first appearance since 2019, and since he had Tommy John surgery last spring.

Jason Vosler also was recalled from Triple-A. The Giants cleared roster spots by putting Jaylin Davis on the IL with a hamstring strain and designating reliever Jimmie Sherfy for assignment.

Beede was in line to win a rotation spot last spring but he needed surgery in March, causing him to miss the entire 2020 MLB season and the start of this one. He had no issues with the rehab but has had trouble with his command at times while with the Sacramento River Cats. Beede has made 12 starts in Triple-A and has a 6.56 ERA, in large part because of 32 walks in 35 2/3 innings.

It wasn't too long ago, though, that Beede was viewed as the most likely of the organization's young pitchers to lock up a long-term rotation spot. He had made 26 appearances in the big leagues and could be a choice to pitch in place of Sammy Long, who was put on the IL over the weekend.

Davis was hurt running to first base in his third at-bat on Tuesday. Sherfy pitched later in that game and allowed two earned runs that proved to be important when the Giants tried to come back in the ninth inning. He allowed four earned over his last two appearances.
