It wasn’t the walloping a lot of people expected, but the resulted many people thought would happen happened. Despite hanging with Ohio State for almost four quarters, the Irish still lost, 21-10. Will it be enough to keep them out of the College Football Playoff conversation? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, Irish fans were left to stew (no pun intended) about the defeat. Sure, their team had a 10-7 lead at halftime and through most of the third quarter, but was anyone really thinking about that at the end? The expected negative outcome turning into the actual outcome never makes it easier to take.
Speaking of taking, the loss meant it was time for Irish fans to take to Twitter. The thoughts and emotions varied, but they all had one thing in common: They agreed that losing stinks no matter what. Here are some of the postgame thoughts from Irish fans and observers:
Notre Dame competed. No moral victories in South Bend but Irish looked respectable against one of country’s most explosive teams. Tough loss but, let’s face it, could’ve been worse. #NDvsOSU

Notre Dame is a good team, just not at Ohio State’s level. Better days are ahead for the Irish.

Ohio State looked physically tougher than they have since the early Urban years.
Losing that game sucks, but I do feel better about the direction Notre Dame is headed than I ever have.

I will also say I love Notre Dame I will root for them for the rest of the year. Great game

Fighting Irish lost by 11 points in Columbus when we were underdogs by 17.5 points.
I love our defense, offense needs some tweaks/works to do.
What a good start to Marcus Freeman’s era.#GoIrish☘️

I thought it was ridiculous that Ohio State was favored by 15 points over Notre Dame.. made a good bet tonight.
The Fighting Irish might have the next big thing in Marcus Freeman. They desperately needed a new voice.
