Has your heart rate come down from that last play yet? No? Well, for the benefit of those who missed it, we’re still going to show how close California came to taking Notre Dame to overtime as the clock hit zero:
That close. 😳

As frustrating as it was at times, the Irish gladly will take the 24-17 victory to give Marcus Freeman his first win as a head coach. It doesn’t matter to them right now that the defenders should have knocked the ball down instead of deflecting it up in the air or going for an interception that only would have served to pad someone’s stats. A win is a win, and that’s an accomplishment by itself.
Irish fans took to Twitter afterwards to talk about the victory. After a game like that and given how disappointing the season has been so far, it was hard to tell what the consensus mood was. In the end, everyone has to be happy in some form or another:

Stealing a line from @JonAlba, I, for one, am thankful that I never spoken ill of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
