The Minnesota Twins placed designated hitter Nelson Cruz on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist strain and recalled infielder Luis Arraez for his first stint in the major leagues.
Cruz, whose IL move is retroactive to May 14, has seven home runs and nine doubles with 22 RBIs in 35 games with the Twins, while batting .270. The 38-year-old veteran was signed to a one-year $14.3 million contract for the 2019 season.
Cruz joined the Twins after earning his way onto the American League All-Star team in five of the past six seasons with the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners. He has 367 career home runs over 15 seasons and is a career .274 hitter.
Arraez was just promoted to Triple-A Rochester after batting .342 with a .415 on-base percentage at Double-A Pensacola. He had five hits in 14 at-bats at Triple-A. In six minor league seasons in the Twins organization, Arraez is batting .331 over 354 games, but lacks power with just six home runs.
