Mets-Cardinals rain delay in St. Louis

Tuesday’s game between the Mets and St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium has been postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as par of a doubleheader on Wednesday, with first pitch of Game 1 set for 5:15 p.m.

While the Mets have had some tough luck with so many games being postponed already this season, they actually catch a break with Tuesday’s game being rained out.

Instead of having to pitch a bullpen game with Miguel Castro making an emergency start for the scratched Jacob deGrom, the Mets will be able to throw Marcus Stroman in Game 1 Wednesday, and then can have someone like Jordan Yamamoto (who was just added to the 26-man roster on Tuesday) potentially start Game 2.

Luis Rojas did not officially name a Game 2 starter, but he did say that the 24-year-old Yamamoto is an option. The Mets will also be able to add a 27th player to roster for Wednesday, though Rojas was unsure if the team will use that spot for a pitcher or a position player.

The Mets could also catch a break if Brandon Nimmo is able to start on Wednesday. He was out of Tuesday’s starting nine as he recovers from a left index finger contusion, but Rojas said earlier on Tuesday that he was swinging a bat and is doing “a lot better.”

"The advantage is resting the guys, resting the arms," Rojas said after the postponement was made official. "We get today, tomorrow. Nimmo will have another day. He showed up better today and might be even better tomorrow and we can include him in there, either in the starting lineup or coming off the bench. We’ll see how it is, but there’s where I see the opportunities after not playing tonight."
