Tuesday's HS sports highlights: Roden, Mullet lead Garaway to IVC South win over TV
Alexander Roden scored 24 points and Drew Mullet added a strong 21 thanks to six 3-pointers as host Garaway knocked off Tusky Valley 69-55 in an Inter-Valley Conference South Division boys basketball showdown Tuesday night.
Garaway improved to 10-3, 6-2, while Tusky Valley fell to 11-5, 4-4.
Brady Roden and Logan Yoder were next in scoring for Garaway with eight points apiece.
Tusky Valley led Garaway 19-17 after the opening quarter and Garaway took a 32-28 halftime lead and extend its lead to 53-40 after three quarters of action.
Logan Stotzer led the Trojans and all scorers with 25 points. Dawson Williams and Silas Miller were next in scoring with seven points each.
Garaway won the JV contest.
Hiland 57, West Holmes 52
Grant Miller broke a 50-50 tie with a 3-pointer with under a minute to play and hit four free throws down the stretch as state-ranked Hiland downed host West Holmes in the Battle of Holmes County.
Hiland, ranked No. 8 in Division IV, improved to 13-2 and have won seven straight against West Holmes (6-7).
Chris Shetler led the winners with 17 points and eight rebounds and Miller added 12 points, while Tony Yoder put in nine.
Blake Morrison led West Holmes and all scorers with 21 points and Channer Wells added 14, while Brock Zimmerly chipped in nine.
West Holmes led 8-7 after one quarter and 25-24 at the half before Hiland took a 33-32 advantage into the final frame.
Indian Valley 60, Sandy Valley 25
Tyson Pryor scored 15 points, Tanyon McComb added 14 and Isaac Klaserner put in 11 as host Indian Valley knocked off Sandy Valley in an IVC South game at Gnadenhutten.
The Braves improved to 10-5, 4-4, while the Cardinals fell to 5-10, 1-6.
Indian Valley was up 15-6 after one quarter, 22-13 at the half and opened up a 40-17 lead going to the final frame.
Kaiden Mastri led Sandy Valley with 12 and Dantae Faiello was next with seven.
Ridgewood 48, Claymont 35
Dalton Patterson tallied 20 points as visiting Ridgewood recorded an IVC South win over Claymont at Uhrichsville.
Ridgewood improved to 11-4, 5-4, while Claymont dropped to 2-12, 0-8.
Ridgewood, who also got eight points from Kadin Bradford, was up 11-9 after one quarter, 25-21 at the half and 31-30 going to the final frame where the Generals outscored the Mustangs 17-5 and pulled away for the win.
Ridgewood made all eight of their free throw attempts in the fourth and were 22 for 27 in the game.
Claymont was led by Connor Lynch with 12 points and Cade Watkins was next with nine.
The Claymont JV team won 45-36 and the freshmen were victorious 54-21.
John Glenn 91, River View 82, 2 OTs
Nathan Walker tallied 28 points for John Glenn as the host Little Muskies outlasted River View for a Muskingum Valley League double overtime win.
Owen Emig led River View and all scorers with 32 points.
River View led John Glenn 20-16 after the first quarter, 39-33 at the half and 54-53 headed to the fourth quarter.
John Glenn's Avery Parmer hit a 3-pointer with 1.7 left, then teammate Nathan Walker turned an errant pass into three free throws after being fouled with no time left. The game was tied at 72-72 at the end of regulation.
Walker missed a shot in traffic and Muskies couldn't convert the put back so the game was tied 80-80 after the first overtime.
Walker scored on a drive after River View gambled on the in-bound pass and failed to get the steal. The Black Bears came up empty twice and the Little Muskies were in command up 89-82 with 1:08 left.
Meadowbrook 59, Coshocton 55
Jake Singleton fired in 31 points and Josh Hupp scored 16 to lead host Meadowbrook to an MVL win over Coshocton.
Coshocton led 18-17 after the first quarter, but Meadowbrook, who also got nine points from Trevon Mayle, took a 30-27 halftime lead before the visitors led 45-44 going to the fourth quarter.
Zach Jennings led Coshocton with 17 points and Jacob Lonsberry added 11, while Alec Laaper just missed double figures with nine.
Minerva 55, Carrollton 51
Brayden Costea fired in 37 points thanks in part to seven 3-pointers as host Minerva downed neighboring Carrollton in an Eastern Buckeye Conference clash.
Minerva improved to 5-10, 2-7, while Carrollton dropped to 2-13, 1-8.
Carrollton led 9-5 after one quarter before Minerva took a 23-20 lead at the half and a 37-30 lead going to the final frame.
Jaxon Rinkes led Carrollton with 27 points and Darick Miller added 12.
East Canton 70, Newcomerstown 48
Visiting East Canton rolled to an IVC North win at Newcomerstown.
The Hornets improved to 4-10, 3-5, while the Trojans fell to 1-14, 0-9.
Girls basketball
Buckeye Trail 66, Coshocton 58, OT
Abby Waylie fired in 26 points to lead Buckeye Trail over Coshocton in a non-league makeup game.
Buckeye Trail led 15-10 after one quarter, 30-27 at the half and 42-40 after three quarters of play. The game was knotted at 54-54 at the end of regulation.
Carrollton vs. United
Carrollton recorded a sweep of United at Forest Lanes as the Warriors boys improved to 9-3 overall, 5-0 in the Stark Country League and 4-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference and the girls raised their record to 10-2, 5-0 and 4-0.
The Carrollton boys won 2,691-2,370 as Kobe Green rolled a 477 series (245-232) and Ian Pallaye added a 452 (226-226). Chris Combs led United with a 387.
Carrollton's girls won 2,587-2,063 as Kellyn Harsh bowled a 428 (223-203) and Joline Greaves had a 377 (164-213). Shyanna Coleman led United with a 351.
