Trio of Oklahoma quarterbacks coaching in Tennessee-Florida rivalry

No. 12 Florida (2-1) will host Tennessee (2-1) Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Kickoff between the Vols and Gators is slated for 7 p.m. EDT. ESPN will televise the Southeastern Conference matchup.

Josh Heupel is in his first season as the Vols’ head coach. Heupel played collegiately at Oklahoma from 1999-2000. He guided the Sooners to the 2000 BCS national championship.

Heupel completed 615-of-972 passes for 7,066 yards, 50 touchdowns and 30 interceptions with Oklahoma. He rushed for 69 yards and 12 touchdowns on 130 attempts.

Joey Halzle is serving as Heupel’s quarterbacks coach at Tennessee.

Halzle also played quarterback at Oklahoma from 2006-08, completing 53-of-83 passes for 640 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Garrick McGee is serving as Dan Mullen’s quarterbacks coach at Florida in 2021.

McGee played quarterback at Oklahoma from 1994-95. McGee completed 195-of-377 passes, totaling 2,449 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions with the Sooners.

He totaled 234 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on 132 attempts.
