This gadget claims it cooks bacon to its perfection

KATIE MATHER: Do you seriously need a separate kitchen gadget to grill your bacon to perfection? We're going to investigate that.

A lot of people on Amazon actually really do love this $150 Bacon Master. This is like the perfect thing to have when you're cooking for a ton of people at once because apparently, you don't have to watch the bacon at all. The machine does it all for you.

So we're going to be comparing my bacon just made off the stove top with the Bacon Master's bacon to see if it really is worth buying.

OK, so how the Bacon Master works is you just plug it in, make sure it's on a flat surface, remove the top, put your strips of bacon on the hot plate. They have to be separate. They cannot be touching. And then put the hood back on top, covering the bacon.

Then you're going to turn the dial to however cooked you want it. And then basically, you just wait for the machine to go off. And then you remove the hood and peel off the bacon.

In terms of just cooking bacon, I just pop it on the stove, really straightforward, easy-peasy, no further instructions needed.

So let's try the bacon out. This one is from the Bacon Master. And this one I just cooked on my stove pot with a regular pan.

[DISTORTED CRUNCHING]

In terms of crispness, who's the winner here? My bacon, obviously. I turned up the dial on the Bacon Master to be in the crispiness realm, but it's not crispy. This bacon barely looks cooked to me. And I'm not impressed.

In terms of how easy it was to use, the Bacon Master scared me a lot. I was terrified when smoke started coming out of the hood because I couldn't really see what was going on. The hood is kind of difficult to take off. And I don't really want to be messing around with pulling a hood off of a hot plate and potentially getting bacon grease in my eye and blinding myself.

I definitely prefer the fact that I could just use tongs and take my time and be able to see the state of my bacon at all points of the cooking process when I just used a regular pan on the stove top.

Finally, price. Like I mentioned, both of these results just taste like bacon. Are you really going to spend $150 on like this mini-barbecue grill to get this when you could have this with the pan that you already own? I mean, I think it's a no-brainer here.

Ultimately, my bacon was just better. Stick to the stove top and the pan, or some people cook it in the oven. There's just no point in buying this gadget. It totally sucks.
