Will Trevor Story return to peak form this season?

NBC Sports EDGE's Drew Silva explains why Colorado Rockies SS Trevor Story should be able to turn around his underwhelming season.

Video Transcript

DREW SILVA: There was obviously incredible concern in the Rockies front office and among the minds of fantasy managers when star shortstop Trevor Story had to go on the injured list in late May due to a right elbow issue. But imaging tests showed no structural damage, and he returned to action for Colorado on June 10 after missing just a little under two weeks.

Story has not produced at the levels we're accustomed to this year. Between the 2018 and 2020 seasons, he carried a .292 batting average and .909 OPS in over 1,500 plate appearances while averaging 38 home runs and 30 stolen bases for every 162 games played.

But we know Story can probably, and probably will get back to that elite level five category fantasy status at some point in 2021. And it's a near guarantee that the impending free agent will be joining a contending club with a far better supporting cast sometime before the July 30 trade deadline. If only he could bring Coors Field and the thin air of Denver along with him.
