Trent Seaborn breaks down ‘unexpected’ offer from Auburn
Trent Seaborn took the state of Alabama, and even the nation, by storm last December as he passed for 207 yards and five touchdowns in Thompson’s 49-27 with over Auburn High School in the AHSAA Class 7A state championship at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
He did all of that in three quarters, as an eighth grader.
Soon after that game, some of the nation’s top programs began showing interest in Seaborn, including Auburn. He paid a visit to campus in January after already earning offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Hawaii.
Last week, he and his high school teammates participated in the Auburn Elite 7v7, where he led Thompson to a championship. Seaborn was complimentary of Thompson’s receivers, who played a big role in leading them to the championship.
“Deuce Oliver is someone I’ve grown really close with on and off the field and he came up huge for us, he is so dynamic,” Seaborn tells Auburn Wire. “Kolby Hearn won so many of his matchups and his speed is something else. Angel Jones came up big with so many contested catches. AJ Green and Mikey Dujon made big plays all tournament, and Colben Landrew was such a weapon, especially close to the goal line. I think he had like 2 or 3 head-top scores.”
Winning a 7v7 championship over several great high school programs is a great accomplishment in itself, but Seaborn got to take home another special item… an offer from Auburn.
Seaborn says that he had no idea that Auburn was going to extend an offer.
“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting an offer at all,” Seaborn said. “I’ve gotten to know Coach (Hugh) Freeze and Coach (Philip) Montgomery over the past few months. We met at school when they visited, and then they had me up for Junior Day after.”
Freeze and Montgomery have worked diligently to build a relationship with Seaborn despite him still being four years away from making a decision regarding his college career. Seaborn says that their efforts mean a lot to him.
“At my age, the relationships I develop with coaches are really more important than actually getting the offer,” Seaborn says. “And I’m grateful to be continuing that process with Auburn’s coaches.”
Seaborn also says that he likes the excitement that Freeze is bringing back to Auburn and that he is looking forward to his next visit.
“I love what they’re doing so far, and there’s a lot of excitement about them getting Auburn back to where it’s been as a program,” Seaborn said. “I really like Coach Montgomery, he’s real easy to talk with, and his faith is important to him just like it is to me. I’m really looking forward to continuing to visit up there again soon.”
Seaborn has paid visits to several places such as Texas, Wisconsin, and Alabama recently, and credits his high school coaches for pushing him to get better every day at practice, as it ultimately leads him to receive interest from so many programs. He also says that he gives glory to God after receiving his “incredible” offer from Auburn.
