Travis Scott Receives Key to Missouri City, Texas

Travis Scott has been awarded the key to Missouri City, Texas, KTRK reports. The rapper was born in Houston and grew up in its suburb of Missouri City. He received the honor from Mayor Allen Owen in a ceremony held yesterday, February 10, which is now officially recognized by the city as Travis Scott Day. Houston Rockets guard James Harden was also at the ceremony and took the stage along with Scott and his family members. Harden previously appeared in Scott’s “way back” video from his 2016 album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.

At one point during the presentation, a fan in the audience shouted, “I got goosebumps,” referencing Scott’s Kendrick Lamar collaboration. Mayor Owen paused to say: “You think you have goosebumps? You shoulda seen him!”

After being presented the key, Scott gave a heartfelt speech. “This is better than any award show I’ve ever been to,” Scott said. He went on to express his gratitude towards the city. “My only job is just to inspire kids to be the best they can be, to reach their ultimate height. Everybody has a dream and everybody can do it.” He then briefly performed his single, “Butterfly Effect.” Watch it happen below. Scott is also a new father; he and Kylie Jenner recently welcomed their baby girl Stormi.
