Transfer portal QB target leaning toward joining Gators as walk-on

Florida football has been active in the NCAA transfer portal of late. One of the more pressing concerns for Billy Napier and Co. has been under center and they have been actively looking to rectify that issue.

Freshman quarterback Christian Hunt, who played for the Arkansas State Red Wolves in 2023, entered his name into the portal on Dec. 4 and is still in search of a new school at which to matriculate. According to Swamp247, the 6-foot-5-inch, 210-pound passer made an official visit with the University of Florida on Sunday, which apparently went quite well.

According to On3’s Keith Niebuhr, Hunt is leaning heavily toward taking a preferred walk-on spot with the Gators in 2024 that Napier offered him.

“I think it’s pretty likely,” Hunt said on Monday.

The product of Redondo Beach, California, was a three-star prospect coming out of high school according to 247Sports, landing at 128th among the nation’s quarterback prospects. He finished his senior season with 1,950 passing yards on 263 attempts along with 20 touchdowns through the air and one on the ground over 12 games at Redondo Union High. As a junior, Hunt threw for 1,898 passing yards in 10 games played.

Hunt did not take any live snaps in 2023.

Florida did add a quarterback to their roster on Sunday night in former Yale Bulldog Aidan Warner, but with the recent departures of Jack Miller III and Micah Leon, there is still room for aspiring signal-callers.
