Tracy Porter, Saints Super Bowl legend, arrested for battery, drug charges
Tracy Porter, a former member of the New Orleans Saints‘ Super Bowl-winning team, was arrested in Baton Rouge this week on drug and battery charges.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Porter on Oct. 10, following an Oct. 5 report from an unidentified woman who claimed he attacked her. The woman claimed in an affidavit that an argument with Porter turned physical, and when she attempted to get the keys to her home back from him, he pushed her against his car then grabbed her by the face and neck.
After his arrest, Porter said he was attempting to protect himself. During the arrest, police found Porter had dozens of prescription painkiller pills in his possession without a prescription, as well as an ounce of marijuana, a grinder and a 9mm firearm. That resulted in charges of possession with intent to distribute acetaminophen, possession of a firearm with a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and battery.
Porter’s best-known NFL moment came late in Super Bowl XLIV, when his 70-yard pick-six against the Indianapolis Colts helped seal a New Orleans victory. He was raised in Louisiana and attended Indiana prior to being drafted in the second round. After playing for New Orleans, he suited up for the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears, who cut him earlier this year.
