VOORHEES, N.J. - Moments before the start of Day 1 at Flyers training camp, it was announced that Nolan Patrick was not cleared to participate because of an upper-body injury.

Although he was not with the rest of his team Friday morning, Patrick still hit the ice and continued on with his rehab and conditioning.

Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher was asked about the matter.

We've known about it for a while. Been working with him for a while - trying to get him healthy as quickly as we can.

Fletcher also noted that the young center is week to week and the team is unsure of an exact timeline for his return.

Will he be ready for the season opener?

"It's tough to say," Fletcher said. "We'll just continue to wait and see how things are going."

While this injury was not significant enough to require surgery, Patrick not being able to participate in camp with a new look behind the bench and a fresh system may hurt him even more in the long run.

Patrick has not had a fully healthy season since 2015-16 when he was with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings. From sports hernia surgery, to concussions, to upper-body injuries - the past three seasons have been a roller coaster.

So, why can't Patrick stay healthy?

His health has always been a big concern but this latest injury installment could raise a red flag when looking down the line at the future of his career.

The start of the season is creeping up now being just three weeks away. Hopefully for the Flyers, he'll receive the green light and will be ready to roll.
