Top And Ones from Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics, 08/21/2020
Tiger Woods found himself 21 shots off the lead entering the final round of The Northern Trust, but that didn't mean he was ready to pack it in and move on to the BMW Championship next week. No, no, no ... Woods needed a good finish to help his chances of getting back to East Lake and he wasted no time Sunday in doing so. A perfect drive and a dart at the first set up Woods for his first birdie of the day after narrowly missing out on one Saturday.

Javier Pastore believes Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain will approach future seasons with new levels of confidence because they have "reached the ultimate level". PSG face Bayern Munich in Lisbon on Sunday in their first ever Champions League title match. The Ligue 1 giants overturned deficits to knock out Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta before easing past RB Leipzig in the last four.
The San Francisco Giants are parting ways with a fan favorite Sunday. After making a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Giants designated veteran Hunter Pence for assignment. Pence, 37, will be placed on waivers following the move.
Imagine being able to walk around with two of golf's best for what felt like a casual round of golf. In their case, it also looked like a casual round. Woods used his putter to go over a steep slope from behind the 18th green, and he made a 6-footer coming back to end with a birdie.
After Friday's practice, when the Patriots were without Jarrett Stidham during team drills, there was a chance the second-year quarterback would get right back on the horse Sunday after a day off. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels thought Stidham would be "ready to roll." Stidham did not roll on Sunday, though.
Sophia Popov marked her ball a few inches from the hole on the 18th green, pulled the brim of her cap over her face and began to cry in the arms of her caddie. Moments later and still wiping away tears, Popov tapped in the putt to complete a two-stroke victory at Royal Troon and another fairy-tale story at the Women's British Open. Ranked No. 304, Popov had never won a senior professional event before.
Those numbers bothered the Portland Trail Blazers almost as much as 116-108 after their Game 3 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday night, putting Portland behind 2-1 in the series. That top number is the free throw disparity in Game 3: The Lakers took 43, Portland just 19. Los Angeles took a dozen more free throw attempts in the first half (31) than Portland got all game.
It seemed appropriate on a day when two fellow competitors at the Northern Trust shot scores uncomfortably close to his age that Phil Mickelson announced his plan to debut on the PGA Tour Champions. Scottie Scheffler's Friday-morning 59 briefly appeared like it wouldn't even be low round of the day until Dustin Johnson flatlined his way to a 60 in the afternoon. Like Roger Bannister's 4-minute-mile, the '60' barrier seems to fall now with the frequency of a one-legged drunk on an ice rink, and those low rounds by Scheffler and Johnson might have reminded Mickelson that the days when he can hang with that kind of firepower are fewer and farther between.
Tyson Fury has responded to Floyd Mayweather after the American offered to train his compatriot Deontay Wilder ahead of Fury vs Wilder part III. Mayweather, who has recently announced plans to become “one of the best trainers in the world”, was speaking at a Q&A session on his UK tour when he offered to help Wilder prepare for the third and final fight in the trilogy. “If I train [Wilder] I can teach him how to win,” Mayweather said.
With the new regime in Washington, led by head coach Ron Rivera, the goal going forward was to rebrand the franchise and create a winning culture going forward. Through five training camp practices, the difference is already palpable, according to veteran running back Adrian Peterson, who says that it's 'night and day' from what he saw with the team last year. As one of the older players in the NFL, AP knows what it's like to go through camp with a coaching staff who may be on the way out, and he definitely knows what it's like to be playing with a team who has a goal in mind and is on it's way to accomplishing that.
Back-to-back early playoff exits were enough to make the Washington Capitals realize they made a mistake. In the two years since promoting top assistant Todd Reirden instead of giving Stanley Cup-winning coach Barry Trotz a raise, they've been knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. On Sunday, the team fired Reirden days after losing a five-game series to Trotz's New York Islanders and moved toward hiring the seventh coach since Alex Ovechkin entered the NHL.
More rumors began circulating on Friday that Lonzo Ball may be included in trade talks this off-season after Jay Williams reported as such on his radio show. I'm hearing things around New Orleans that Lonzo may be used as a trading asset in New Orleans…, Jay Williams of ESPN. For a variety of reasons, Ball will likely not be traded.
UFC president Dana White doesn't like to match make on the night of fights, but he did a little bit of that at UFC on ESPN 15. Following former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar's successful debut at bantamweight, White was quick to admit the 38-year-old was an instant contender in the division. The shot at Yan's bantamweight belt will go to Aljamain Sterling, said White.
Deebo Samuel, Richie James and Jalen Hurd are already out with injuries for the Niners. Aiyuk has drawn praise from 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan for his work so far in training camp. Defensive end Dee Ford made an early exit with a right leg injury of some kind.
ers General Manager John Lynch has enjoyed watching left tackle Trent Williams square off with defensive end Nick Bosa at practice and Williams has also been relishing the experience. Williams came to the Niners in a trade after sitting out the entire 2019 season in Washington and is working his way back into playing shape this summer. He said the changes to the offseason schedule have made that more challenging, but that he's lucky to have “one of the best rushers in the league to go up against every day.
Summoned to protect a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning with the Phillies looking to halt a four-game losing streak, Workman served up a two-run double on his first pitch in a Philadelphia uniform. An inning later, he loaded the bases before Adam Duvall walked him off with a two-out single in Atlanta's 6-5 victory. "That's not the first impression I'm trying to make, obviously," Workman told reporters, including Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The NFL announced on Sunday that they are looking into a slew of positive COVID-19 tests that were processed at one laboratory in New Jersey because other labs around the country did not have similar results. One of those teams is the Browns. The Bears have delayed the start to their practice after nine tests came back positive and other teams may also be making announcements of changes to their schedule.
