Top-100 DB from IMG Academy hoping to visit Florida in spring

Florida is targeting four-star IMG Academy safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell in the 2024 cycle, and the blue-chip defensive back is eyeing a spring visit to the Swamp after securing an offer, according to 247Sports.

Defensive analyst Jamar Chaney offered Johnson-Rubell and has been one of two primary contacts for the IMG prospect. The other coach heavily involved in his recruitment is safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Patrick Toney. The duo has been on him since his first visit to UF in the spring and should be getting him back in town over the next few months.

“Florida is right there next to the Tampa area where I am at, so it’s not that far,” Johnson-Rubell said. “I know in March I can visit anytime. So I think I will get there that first week of March. I am going to schedule a visit there either in March or April.”

He named a top 12 in January but has picked up new offers since then, including Florida’s. It has Johnson-Rubell rethinking his most recent and focusing on which programs are recruiting him the hardest. His commitment might get pushed from the summer to fall with all that’s going on right now.

“I don’t really know right now. Florida, Miami, Michigan, all have offered recently, so my eyes are open because I had previously dropped a top 12,” he said. “I just want to find out what schools stand out the most. I don’t have any favorites right now. Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Kansas State, Miami have reached out a lot. I don’t really have any favorites right now.”

If Florida gets Johnson-Rubell on campus in the spring, it will help the Gators’ chances of making the next top schools list he puts out.

The 247Sports composite ranks Johnson-Rubell at No. 86 and No. 7 among safeties overall in the class of 2024. The On3 consensus is even higher on him at No. 72 nationally and No. 6 among those at his position.
