'A tool': Nick Kyrgios again blasts Novak Djokovic, who complained about Australian Open COVID-19 protocol

Nick Kyrgios isn't afraid to turn the heat up on anybody in his sport, including the world No. 1.

After Novak Djokovic complained regarding the strict COVID-19 measures in place as players arrive down under for the Australian Open this month, Kyrgios called him "a tool" on Twitter.

Djokovic's gripes became public after the number of players in hard quarantine, meaning they cannot leave their hotel room for two weeks, reached 72 on Sunday. Among his desires, via 7News in Victoria, Australia: move players to houses with a court, better food, reduce the number of days of isolation and permission to visit a coach.

Australia has experienced success in containing the coronavirus, with roughly 2,000 active cases and less than 1,000 deaths since the pandemic began.

In June, Djokovic tested positive for COVID-19 after he organized a tournament across Europe dubbed the "Adria Tour" with hardly any health precautions. At least four participants became infected.

Kyrgios laid into Djokovic then as well, writing "Boneheaded decision to go ahead with the ‘exhibition’ speedy recovery fellas, but that’s what happens when you disregard all protocols. This IS NOT A JOKE."

The 7News report also showed social media footage from Bernard Tomic's girlfriend, Vanessa Sierra, who lamented that Tomic could not properly train – and that she'd be unable to wash her hair.

"I don’t mind Bernie but his Mrs obviously has no perspective," Kyrgios wrote, "ridiculous scenes."
