Tony Jones Jr. leaves game after helmet explodes on hit

This is not what helmets are supposed to do at all.

Notre Dame sophomore running back Tony Jones Jr. was finishing off a run against Miami (OH) when he took a crushing hit to the head that saw pieces of gold fly all over the field.

The running back was already losing his balance after taking a hit to the shoulder, which made him pretty vulnerable for the second hit. That’s where the most damage was done.

Jones was clearly dazed after the hit and exited the game. He finished the day with only four rushes for 48 yards as Notre Dame won 52-17.

We’ll update this post as soon as more information on Jones’ condition becomes available.
