Tonga and Vanuatu Stole the Show at Another Shirtless, Oiled Up Olympics Opening Ceremony
The flame is lit. Keith Urban sang "Imagine" to a mostly empty stadium. The boys are all oiled up in Tokyo.
That must mean that the Olympics are fully back in business. Sure, it's going to look slightly different this year, what with Tokyo not being able to host in fans in the stands, but that's not to say everything is a wash. Some things have actually gotten better.
Taking note of how much everyone rallied around the oiled up, hunk of a Tongan man from the 2016 and 2018 Olympics, Tonga trotted its international heartthrob back out for the 2020 2021 Olympics. Pita Taufatofu, who has now represented Tonga in both taekwondo and skiing, took his rightful place at Friday's opening ceremonies bearing the Tongan flag.
But knowing a good thing when they see it, Vanuatu was like, "Hey, we got hot guys over here, too. Oh! And we have baby oil!" And thus, Vanuatu introduced us to Riilio Rii, a ni-Vanuatu rower who is competing in the Games for the first time this year.
Even though the Olympics opening ceremony aired at 7 a.m. ET in the United States, that didn't stop anyone being from being real horny on main. A third of the internet rallied around the return of the OG oiled up legend, a third rallied around the new blood from Vanuatu, and a third simply celebrated that this year offers double the physique. These guys? Aspirational. Also very slippery.
