What Tom Brady told Taylor Heinicke after his Wild Card performance originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

In 2017, Tom Brady was introduced to New England Patriots newest practice squad player, Taylor Heinicke, in the quarterback room.

Fast forward three years later on a much larger stage, Heinicke, whose time with the Patriots lasted for three weeks, was introduced to the world but wasn’t too much of a stranger to Brady.

"I don’t think he [Brady] remembered me much,” Heinicke joked about on The Peter King Podcast this week.

Although, after Heinicke put on the performance of his life in a head to head playoff game against ex-teammate and the GOAT of all quarterbacks, Brady told him he “played a hell of a game, showed a lot of grit and to keep working”. "It’s always really cool when you’re talking to a future Hall of Famer," Heinicke said.

"Probably the best quarterback to ever play the game. It’s a neat experience. He just told me I played a hell of a game, showed a lot of grit out there. And just to keep working. Again, for that to come from him, it’s pretty neat. Not a lot of people get to experience that."

No doubt Heinicke will keep working towards his dreams, and one guy he plans on continuing to take notes from is Alex Smith.

"He was a big part of my success last [Saturday] night," Heinicke said. "Alex has done nothing but help me ever since I got here since day one. For him to take time and help me, Steven Montez, Dwayne [Haskins] when he was here. It just speaks volumes to him.

"He would delay treatments just to be in quarterback meeting rooms with us to make sure we knew our stuff."

Heinicke has made it clear he wants to stay in Washington, but whatever happens next for him, it is certain fans of the Washington Football Team will never forget that performance.
