Tobias Harris, Sixers react to his All-Star snub after win over Raptors
The Philadelphia 76ers learned Tuesday night that they would be sending Ben Simmons to the All-Star game on March 7 as one of the reserves in the Eastern Conference, but that Tobias Harris was not selected despite a strong season.
Harris is averaging career-highs in scoring, overall field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage in the 2020-21 season, but that still was not enough to get him to his first All-Star game. He responded by going for 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a 109-102 win over the Toronto Raptors on the road in Tampa.
He was efficient as well as he shot 8-for-12 from the floor and he was 3-for-4 from deep. It was another All-Star worthy performance, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
He took to Instagram to post his dismay about missing the game again. He used rapper Jay-Z’s song “Politics as Usual” for his reaction.
“He’s as mature as anybody in our locker room, including the coaches,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He’s just a mature kid. He clearly wanted to make it, and I clearly wanted him to make it, but the best way to handle the disappointment is go out and show people you can play. Go get 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, two block shots.”
The veteran out of Tennessee just now needs to keep his strong play going in the 2020-21 season. If he can keep this going, then it sets him up for next season. He just needs to build his repuation.
“That’s what Tobias has been doing all year and maybe we can win and go win the whole thing and then next year, he will be on,” Rivers added. “Sometimes, you make the argument even before you make it. Hopefully, that’s the case for him.”
