Titans start Region 7 tourney by sweeping Bison

Nov. 8—DICKINSON — The Region 7 quarterfinals, being held in Trinity's gymnasium, began on Monday, with the No. 1 seed Titans continuing their undefeated region streak — by shutting out Hazen Bison.

Dickinson Trinity (1) did not bat an eye against their last seed opponent, winning 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-8) with very little resistance. Opportunities for the Bison (8) were scarce amid Trinity's sound ball control and strong service rotation that garnered eight aces.

Losing a set in their last outing against Hazen, Titans Head Coach Breanna Sisson said they focused on playing near perfect volleyball and this performance was a prime example of such finely-tuned teamwork.

"The game plan was to eliminate our errors," Sisson said. "The last time we saw the Bison up in Hazen, we made too many unforced errors and I think that is what we got caught up in... In each set we were able to hold our own unforced errors to six, which is great. If we can keep our errors under eight that means we are doing pretty good."

Trinity got right to business and dominated each of the sets. The first ended with a double block from Ava Jahner and Isabella Kovash.

The two would pair well at the end of the second set as well, ending the set on a four-point run with Jahner on the service line. After delivering a 24-10 ace, the final rally would be a long one, but concluded with Kovash's kill on the outside.

The Titans attack from the middle was just as effective and helped them start with a 3-0 lead in the final game. Bison's error would be too great in the third set and would end the game with a passing error.

Trinity had 34 kills as a team and setter Delaney Deschamp had 26 assists. Jahner led her team in kills with 10 and tied Kovash for most aces with two. Helena Pavek followed Jahner in kills with seven. Senior Nevaeh Muckle and juniors Jersey Erie, Deschamp and Melissa Zach each collect an ace.

After the game Kovash and her teammates enjoyed fruit pizza cookies to celebrate their victory. Kovash said that the snack was a good way to end the day and that the victory was the push they needed for the games to come.

"Our big goal was communication," Kovash said. "Working on that will help us come together and to play a good game."
