Titans say Marcus Mariota 'day to day' with hamstring injury

Sunday was a day many members of the Tennessee Titans would rather forget – not just because they watched the Houston Texans and rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson put 57 points on them while only scoring 14, but also because they saw their own quarterback, Marcus Mariota, leave the game with a hamstring injury.

Fortunately, however, it seems Mariota’s injury is relatively minor.

Meeting with media on Monday, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said a morning MRI revealed a hamstring strain, but did not sound an alarm over his condition.

“He did have an MRI, and there is a strain of the hamstring,” Mularkey said. “We will right now take it day to day. He is a pretty fast healer, and we’ll see where he is at and give you more information on Wednesday.”

There is a possibility Mariota could play this Sunday, when Tennessee faces the Miami Dolphins, but that will not be determined until later in the week, if not on game day, Sunday.

Mariota was injured during a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, sprinting to the pylon. It was his second score of the day, having gotten to the end zone from 34 yards out earlier.

Mularkey said the Titans are talking about possibly adding another quarterback to the roster; Matt Cassel is Mariota’s backup, and finished the game against the Texans.

Mariota suffered a broken leg in Week 16 last year.
