Titans’ Robert Woods already looking ahead to Week 1 vs. Giants
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Robert Woods did not suit up in the preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, and there’s a chance we may not see him at all during the exhibition slate.
While it would certainly be beneficial for Woods to see at least a series or two during the preseason as he comes back from a torn ACL with a new team, a veteran like Woods will be ready to go Week 1 no matter what.
“My biggest objective is being ready for Week 1,” Woods said, via Ben Arthur of The Tennessean. “If coach asks me to go out there [in the preseason], I’ll be ready to go. But really, it’s just being ready for Week 1.”
With some extra time on his hands, Woods is already looking ahead to the New York Giants, who the Titans play in Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 11.
“Maybe,” Woods said with a big smile when asked if he’s already thinking about Week 1. “Never too early. We know who we’re coming out with Week 1, everybody knows. Just trying to get an edge whenever you can. You have an opportunity to not play in preseason games, just have to capitalize on the time, being able to watch your opponents’ schemes. But that’s when we’re all waiting on.”

Coming off a dreadful 4-13 season, the Giants made key additions to their defense in the 2022 NFL draft by selecting edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and hiring Don “Wink” Martindale as their defensive coordinator, someone Tennessee is quite familiar with from his days with the Baltimore Ravens.
However, Big Blue also subtracted a good cornerback in James Bradberry, who likely would have matched up with Woods quite a bit. With Bradberry gone, Woods could get a heavy dose of Adoree’ Jackson, the team’s No. 1 cornerback and elder statesman of the group.
Woods has put together a strong camp for Tennessee and looks to have no ill effects from the serious knee injury he suffered in 2021, which is good news because the Titans need a big contribution from the veteran in 2022.
