Titans had highest-graded RB, biggest surprise at WR in NFL, per PFF
The Tennessee Titans had a solid run to the postseason, but were ultimately downed by the Baltimore Ravens in January, the same team they downed the previous year when they came within just one game of the Super Bowl.
Running back Derrick Henry was one of the most important factors for the Titans this year, carrying the ball 378 times for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns.
It comes as no surprise that he was listed as Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded running back of the 2020 season with a grade of 92.4.
Here’s a look at what the PFF’s Ben Linsey had to say about that.
The 2K club at the running back position has found another member after Henry ran for 2,027 yards on 378 attempts this season, and the 6-foot-3, 247-pound back’s advanced rushing numbers back up the idea that he is one of the hardest men in the NFL to bring to the ground. His 75 missed tackles forced as a runner led the position, and his 1,490 rushing yards after contact were more than any running back other than Dalvin Cook had in total on the year. Henry has unquestionably been the most prolific rusher in the NFL ever since Ryan Tannehill took over at quarterback in Tennessee.
Wide receiver Corey Davis was a player who brought himself back into people’s eyes this year after being largely overshadowed by A.J. Brown’s rookie season in 2019.
He looked like the guy we thought he could be for the Titans, totaling 65 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns, all career-highs. As a result, he was Linsey’s pick for the biggest surprise at wide receiver in the NFL after he posted an overall grade of 86.9.
Davis picked an opportune time in a contract year to start to look more like the wide receiver the Titans hoped they were getting after selecting him fifth overall in the 2017 NFL draft,” Linsey wrote. “He has been a solid option for Tennessee in the passing game each of the past two years, but he took another step forward from an efficiency standpoint in 2020. Davis’ 86.9 PFF grade was over 10 points higher than his previous career high, and he recorded a top-five contested-catch rate (65%) among wide receivers with 15 or more contested targets.
Henry is expected to continue to be a force for the Titans as they look to go all the way in 2021, while it remains to be seen whether or not Davis will be suiting up for the team next season or land elsewhere.
Regardless, the Titans will likely want to add some additional targets for quarterback Ryan Tannehill this offseason.
