A hand injury has halted Tim Tebow’s surprising breakout season as an outfielder for the New York Mets’ Double-A affiliate Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The Rumble Ponies placed Tebow on the disabled list Saturday with a hand injury suffered in a game on Thursday.

Tim Tebow to see specialist for injured hand

Manager Luis Rojas told reporters that the team does not have results of an X-Ray and MRI that Tebow underwent on Friday. Tebow is slated to visit a hand specialist on Monday.

“He’s one of our able players, but he’s not able to swing,” Rojas told Binghamton’s 12 News. “We’re really tentative to use him in any other area. The organization and our medical trainer required him to go to New York as soon as possible. We have to find out what the discomfort is. We just have to make sure that it’s nothing major.”

Tebow an All-Star

Tebow, the Heisman Trophy-winning former Florida Gators quarterback who had a brief stint in the NFL, was hitting .273 with six home runs, 36 RBI and 103 strikeouts in 84 games with the Rumble Ponies. He was recently selected as a member of the Eastern League All-Star team.
