One of the most common skin problems people complain about to dermatologists is large pores. Pores cover our entire body, but some spots — like the forehead, nose and central face area — are more prone to having larger pores due to the extra oil production.

Pores are perfectly natural — and there’s no way to get rid of them completely. There is, however, one product making the rounds on TikTok that allegedly can help with enlarged pores.

Milk of Magnesia, which you can pick up at any pharmacy, is typically used as a laxative. Although, when applied topically to your skin, it can operate as a cheap skincare hack.

“I’ve tried expense stuff and it never works as well as my great grandmother Hazel’s trick,” TikTok user Tabetha Wallace said in a video, referring to Milk of Magnesia. “Shake it up. Take a cotton puff, it looks milky white, and you dab it on the areas.”

After adding a couple layers of Milk of Magnesia to your pores, let it dry. At first it will look like chalk, but you can leave it on all night or, as some people mentioned in the comments of Wallace’s video, wear it under makeup.

“When you wake up, your pores will look great,” she added.

Dr. Rebecca Fitzgerald, a dermatologist based in Los Angeles, told TODAY that those with sensitive and acne-prone skin should be wary of overdoing it with Milk of Magnesia.

“Your skin’s pH balance is a little acidic or neutral and Milk of Magnesia is at a basic pH,” Fitzgerald said. “That could mess with your skin’s ability to hold water and it could cause you all kinds of problems.”
