THURSDAY PREPS: Coyotes post 46-34 victory over Tatum

Jan. 20—TATUM — Junior Ashton Davis tallied 15 points and Dora's boys posted a 46-34 victory over Tatum on Thursday night.

The Coyotes (8-6) led by five points entering the final stanza before pulling away with an 11-4 finish. Senior Cole Kircher added 13 points and junior Roddy Neal chipped in nine for Dora.

Tatum (1-15) got nine points from sophomore Anthony Duffy and eight from senior Spencer Whitman.

In other area boys action on Thursday:

Clovis Christian 54, San Jon 19 — At San Jon, the Eagles ran away with the game early, building a 42-19 halftime advantage.

Senior Jaden Martinez and freshman Brock Teune led CCS (8-7) with 14 points each, while senior Noah McKay scored 11. McKay had three 3-pointers and Teune added a pair.

For the Coyotes (0-6), sophomore Truitt Sallee collected eight points.

In area girls clashes on Thursday:

Tatum 41, Dora 32 — At Tatum, the Lady Coyotes gave Class 2A top-ranked Tatum a battle, but a 16-5 deficit in the second stanza put them in a hole from which they couldn't escape.

Senior Valeria Marizcal put in 16 points for Tatum, while the top scorer for Dora (9-5) was senior Faith Jasso with 12 points.

San Jon 32, Clovis Christian 24 — At San Jon, the Lady Eagles cut a 13-2 first-quarter deficit to four points at halftime, but in the end they couldn't overcome their slow start.

Senior Sarah Archuleta paced the Lady Coyotes with 19 points. Freshman Hannah McKay scored seven points for CCS (10-4) and freshman Madisyn Kruckeberg netted six.
