Thunder to sign Arkansas’ Jaylin Williams to 4-year contract
No. 34 pick Jaylin Williams has reportedly agreed to sign a four-year rookie contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Williams earned All-SEC second-team honors last season after averaging 10.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks with Arkansas. He finished fifth in the country in total rebounds (364) and fourth in defensive win shares (3.0).
The contract will be worth $8.2 million.
He is among four rookies the Thunder added to their roster on draft night, joining Chet Holmgren, Ousmane Dieng and Jalen Williams. Each player has previously signed their rookie-scale contracts with the team.
Williams did not play with the Thunder in their Las Vegas Summer League opener on Saturday but totaled two points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and two steals across three games in the Salt Lake City Summer League. He is expected to eventually play in Las Vegas.
The Thunder felt strongly about adding Williams to the roster and he will now have the opportunity to compete for minutes next season. The team has a crowded roster but views that as a great chance for players to earn their place.
