Three Aggies named to All-WAC teams; Allen named Player of the Year

LAS CRUCES — Three Aggies officially received All-WAC honors in a release Monday afternoon.

Redshirt junior gaurd Teddy Allen became New Mexico State's fifth WAC Player of the Year in addition to being named First Team All-WAC, WAC Newcomer of the Year and selected to the WAC All-Newcomer team. Redshirt junior gaurd Jabari Rice and redshirt senior forward Johnny McCants were named Second Team All-WAC. McCants was additionally named to the All-WAC Defensive Team.

Allen averaged a league-best 19.4 points per game and finished 33rd in scoring nationally with 15 games with at least 20 points, four games with at least 30 points and a 41-point game Jan. 15 against Abilene Christian. He also led NMSU in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game and seven double-double performances.

Rice ranked second on the team in scoring by averaging 12 points per game in addition to 5.2 rebounds and had two double-double performances to earn his third straight All-WAC selection. McCants was named to his first All-WAC team after six seasons at NMSU.

McCants averaged 8.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. He also led the team in blocked shots per game with 1.8.

All three of the Aggies' all-conference selections scored their 1,000th career point this season.

"It feels alright, but I have bigger goals," Rice said.
