Thinking outside the box

Third in the league. Joint-third most goals. It's fair to say St Mirren have been a force in the Premiership this season.

It's this impressive start to the season that makes this statistic so curious. Only St Johnstone - whose attacking problems have been well documented this season - have fewer touches in the opposition box than the Buddies.

Considering they're still outscoring most teams in the division, the numbers might not keep Stephen Robinson up at night.

On closer inspection, St Mirren rank fourth-bottom in terms of shots on target so far this season. They're outperforming their xG by more than five goals, which begs the question of whether the Paisley club can sustain their scoring form.
