TGN Athlete of the Week: Tyson Frey

Mar. 13—Fairfield senior boys basketball player Tyson Frey has been named The Goshen News' Athlete of the Week for March 4-10.

Scoring 10 points at last week's regional win against Hammond Bishop Noll, Frey's game-winning layup broke the tie and solidified the Falcons second regional title in program history.

After holding a 15-point halftime lead, Fairfield watched that lead slip in the second half. Frey's heroics kept the Falcons in the postseason, sending them to the semi-state round this weekend in Logansport.

Frey earned 40% of the fan vote this week.

Runner-up: Wyatt Mast

Finishing second in the voting was NorthWood track and field sprinter Wyatt Mast.

Mast ran a pair of flashy 60-meter dashes this past week. Grabbing a second and first place finish in separate meets, his time of 7.08 at Bethel set an unofficial school record.

The Panthers standout grabbed 27% of the vote.

Also nominated: Kaydence Shepherd

The track and field accolades continued with Wawasee senior Kaydence Shepherd on the field side.

While also competing in sprinting events, Shepherd's performances were highlighted by her long jump distance of 16'1", good for first place.

Shepherd received 17% of the vote.

Also nominated: Allison DeFreese

Concord sprinter Allison DeFreese made her mark with multiple first-place finishes this past week including in the 60-meter dash (8.02) and in both the 4X200- and 4X400-meter relay.

She earned 10% of the vote.

Also nominated: Noah Bontrager

Rounding out the voting was Westview sophomore Noah Bontrager.

Finishing first in the 3200-meter run (9:42.42) and helping out in the 4X400- and 4X800-meter relays, Bontrager continued excelling in the distance events to begin the season.
