TGN Athlete of the Week: Addison Beasley

Jan. 24—Grabbing ahold of 43% of the vote, Wawasee girls swim junior Addison Beasley was named The Goshen News Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-21.

Beasley excelled at the girls swimming Northern Lakes Conference meet at Northridge High School this past Monday. She was a member on the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay which both took first at the conference meet.

Individually, Beasley finished atop the competition in the 200-yard individual medley with a meet record of 2:05.33 and in the 100-yard breaststroke with a new meet record of 1:04.18. The new record in the individual medley was also a new record for Wawasee's program, breaking the oldest school record.

Runner-up: Tyson Chupp

Bethany Christian's Tyson Chupp played a large part in the Bruins' 2-0 record last week. Helping in wins over Prairie Heights and Hamilton, Chupp scored 34 points and added 14 assists, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

Gathering 17% of the vote, Chupp finished second in the voting.

Also nominated: Laish Detwiler

Goshen's Laish Detwiler finished third in the voting this week, taking 16% of the vote.

Detwiler was one of several area wrestlers to win his weight class at the NLC Championships in Mishawaka but was the lone individual to win each bout by pin. He was the top finisher in the 175 weight class.

Also nominated: Tyson Frey

Frey was nominated for his efforts this past week, scoring 15 points in the Fairfield win over conference rival Westview in a rematch between the two.

Frey also added nine points in the NECC Championship game earlier in the week, securing the title for the Falcons — the first since 1999.

He gathered 13% of the vote.

Also nominated: Jaylan Bolen

Concord boys basketball player Jaylan Bolen finished with 11% of the vote.

The Minutemen continued to impress in last week's home victory over Warsaw. Bolen scored 21 points in the victory, securing a huge win over a strong conference foe.
