Is Texas WR Xavier Worthy the Big 12’s most proven returning player?
Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy is a proven commodity. You could argue he is the most proven commodity in the Big 12 among returning players. One eye-opening stat resurfaced on social media that speaks to how dominant Worthy has been in his time at Texas.
On Monday, we were reminded that Worthy has caught 21 touchdown passes in his two-year career. No other Big 12 player matched that total over the past two seasons. In addition, his 21 touchdowns rank him No. 2 in the nation among returning players in touchdown receptions over that span. That’s even with a down year in 2022.
This season figures to be a bounce-back year for Worthy who is set to receive more surrounding help. Premier pass catchers Jordan Whittington and Ja’Tavion Sanders return while Isaiah Neyor, AD Mitchell and Johntay Cook are added to the fold. That could mean less pressure on the receiver and less Worthy-centric coverages.
It’s proven commodities like Worthy that have Texas favored by many outlets to compete for a conference title. In the Big 12, perhaps no other team has more proven commodities than the Longhorns this year. Those players will look to elevate their game to return Texas to prominence.
