The Houston Cougars, currently ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 tournament and the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, will play against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday night in the first semifinal match in Kansas City. The winner of this game will advance to the finals on Saturday and have a chance to secure the conference's automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars jumped past the Horned Frogs with Houston defeating TCU in a 60-45 victory in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Emanuel Sharp led the Cougars with 14 points, while Jamal Shead added 12 points.

Texas Tech secured its place in the semifinals by defeating BYU 81-67. Pop Isaacs and Chance McMillian's combined 39 points led the Red Raiders to victory over the Cougars.

In the last meeting between Houston and Texas Tech, the Cougars thrashed the Red Raiders 77-54 on Jan. 14 in Houston.

Big 12 Tournament: Texas Tech vs. Houston predictions

ESPN: Houston has a 89% chance to win

According to ESPN's Matchup Predictor, the Houston Cougars have a 89% chance of beating the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 tournament semifinal game.

Action Network: Pick Houston

Staff writes: "I can't imagine the Red Raiders defending Shead's middle-of-the-floor creation any better than they did in the first meeting. And the Cougars might earn more at-the-rim points in Washington's absence or 50% effort. It also doesn't help that Tech's aggressive defense means the Raiders rank 13th in the Big 12 in Open 3 Rate allowed, and we know the Cougars will take — and often make — triples. Meanwhile, Tech must shoot 60% from 3 to create any offense against Houston's impenetrable interior defense. I don't see that happening, so I'll back Houston to win another game by double digits."

Winners and Whiners: Texas Tech

Michael Briggs writes: "I feel confident Texas Tech will use the embarrassment from their earlier loss to Houston as motivation. They're a better three-point shooting team than they showed in that road loss and are deadly when they get to the free-throw line a lot (18th in FT%). Covering the spread against Houston isn't as challenging as winning straight-up. I'll bet on the Red Raiders to play competitively enough to keep the final score closer than expected."
