Texas A&M's Robert Williams, 2-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year, declares for NBA draft

While Michigan moved onto the Elite Eight on Thursday night, Texas A&M’s Robert Williams announced his intentions to declare for the NBA draft.

The 6-foot-10, 241 pound Williams averaged a subtle 10.3 points on 62.7 percent shooting and 9.3 rebounds per game in 25.6 minutes a night as a sophomore. Junior center Tyler Davis was Texas A&M’s primary low post option whereas Williams’ most significant contributions came on the defensive end where he averaged 2.6 blocks. His aptitude for blotting out the rim hasn’t gone completely unrecognized as the runaway SEC Defensive Player of the Year in each of his two seasons at Texas A&M.

Attributes such as Williams’ thick frame, sneaky athleticism and 7-foot-5 wingspan have made him a highly sought-after NBA prospect since he stepped on campus. Williams was projected as a first-round pick in 2017, but opted to gain more seasoning and to guide the Aggies into the NCAA Tournament after enduring a 16-15 freshman campaign. With his mission accomplished, Williams wasted no time forging ahead.
