Texas lands commitment from Arkansas DB transfer Jalen Catalon

Texas added the missing piece to their secondary on Monday.

Arkansas transfer Jalen Catalon took a visit to the Forty Acres over the weekend and officially announced his commitment to the University of Texas shortly after. He also took visits to Purdue and Texas A&M over the last week.

The former four-star prospect was rated the No. 26 safety in the country for the 2019 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The Longhorns were among Catalon’s top schools as a recruit, but Arkansas eventually won out.

As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Catalon earned All-SEC honors and was later named a preseason All-American for the 2021 season. Over the course of three seasons in Fayeteville, Catalon recorded 159 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, nine pass breakups, five interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Shoulder injuries have limited Catalon to only playing in seven games over the last two seasons. If healthy, Catalon can become an All-American player for the Longhorns.
