SAN ANGELO — Newlyweds Chance and Hannah Buckner loaded dozens of floral arrangements into their pickup and set out Monday for what would be a day of deliveries across San Angelo, Texas.

After the couple married on Sept. 19, the thought of tossing out the fresh pink and white roses didn’t sit well with Hannah, so she put out a call on Facebook.

"I would like to deliver these to anyone needing a lift in their spirits. If anyone knows of someone going through a tough time, an elderly or disabled person that is alone on their street, even if you’ve never talk to them but just see them occasionally. Please message me their address and I will deliver a flower arrangement to them with an encouraging note."

The post received more than 120 comments – mainly supportive of the couple’s kind-hearted gesture – and private messages started pouring in, 72 in all.

People nominated others they felt needed a pick-me-up including patients battling COVID-19, cancer, recent losses, a teacher going through a rough patch, or someone they felt was lonely.

In their matching "Hubs" and "Wifey" shirts, the couple spent six hours delivering flowers to roughly 20 locations.

"We delivered to numerous loved ones, friends and coworkers of people in the community all going through different things in their lives," Hannah said. "We had a few people cry, got some hugs and many thank you's. We had one lady hug us and cry and that one person made it all worth it."

On Monday afternoon, a local nursing home was their first drop-off location.

Although they couldn't see the residents they were delivering to due to COVID-19 restrictions, the thought of brightening someone’s day was enough to put smiles on the couple’s faces.

Chance and Hannah met three years ago. The two say wedding planning during the pandemic had various challenges, including having to postpone from their April ceremony and honeymoon.

"We are just thankful we were finally able to have our day and have all of our dear friends and family there with us," the couple said. "I never thought I would have masks and hand sanitizer at my wedding, but, hey, that’s another memory!"

And they were happy to share their day with even more people through the flower deliveries.

"I know I always enjoy getting flowers, so we just wanted to spread that same joy to others in need," Hannah said. "Chance and I are believers and simply wanted to do what God tells us to do, which is to love and spread love to your neighbors."
