Texas' Andrew Jones giving portion of name, image and likeness funds to cancer research

Texas guard Andrew Jones said he will donate a portion of money received through name, image and likeness deals to cancer research.

Jones, who had been treated for leukemia, will give 10% of the proceeds to the V Foundation. The foundation was created in honor of former North Carolina State basketball coach Jim Valvano, who died of cancer in 1993. The foundation has given almost $300 million in cancer research grants since its inception.

"The money donated to the V Foundation played a major part not only in my ability to receive proper treatment but maintain confidence in both my recovery and eventual return to basketball," Jones said in a statement. "To be able to share my story on how this foundation has impacted my life while paying that forward to future families impacted by cancer is an honor."

Jones was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2018 and completed treatment eight months later. He is the team's third-leading scorer, averaging 10.1 points a game for the No. 25 Longhorns this season.
