Texas and Alabama are set to meet for the first time since playing each other in the 2010 BCS Championship Game.

The two teams will play a home-and-home series in 2022 and 2023. The game in Austin will be on Sep. 10, 2022 and the return game in Tuscaloosa will be on Sep. 9, 2023.

As part of the scheduling agreement, Texas had to do some shuffling. The Longhorns’ home-and-home series with Ohio State has now been moved to 2025 and 2026 and the school canceled a game vs. Central Florida that was slated for 2023. Apparently playing both 2017 National Champions in the same season was too much for Texas to handle.

Alabama beat the Longhorns in Pasadena in January of 2010 as Texas quarterback Colt McCoy left the game with a shoulder injury. Alabama scored 24 second-quarter points and won the game 37-21. It was the first of Nick Saban’s five national titles at Alabama.

According to Texas, the last time the two schools met each other at either Texas or Alabama was in 1922 when the two teams played in Austin.

Alabama had previously announced that it will play Notre Dame in 2028 and 2029. The Crimson Tide open the 2018 season against Louisville and meet USC again in Arlington, Texas, in 2020.
